History of C3 Data

Our Story

As owners of pyrometry labs focusing on heat treaters, brothers Nathan and Matthew Wright were always looking for ways to retain their great technician employees.  They would ask our employees, “What do you dislike most about your jobs?” with the goal of eliminating those things to improve employee satisfaction.

Through those conversations, Matt and Nate discovered one thing that was almost unanimous - the tedium and time involved in writing reports.  They also learned that their customers had to wait days and sometimes weeks for reports to be approved and sent to them.

So Nate and Matt Wright had an idea - what if they could create a tool that would not only write the reports in real-time but also be specific to the specifications their customers used and could eliminate human error?

After a few iterations of testing and development, the brothers launched their idea with their lab technicians, and the results were very positive. 

Building on those successful early tests, Nathan and Matt decided their solution was too important to keep to themselves, and C3 Data was born.  C3 Data is the industry's only comprehensive pyrometry software that connects heat-treaters, sensor manufacturers, and pyrometry labs.

Heat treating is a critical process in many industries, particularly in the aerospace, automotive, and military sectors. 

Generations of Heat Treat Experience

Nathan and Matthew Wright’s grandfather was a heat treater, and today, they represent the third generation of solution providers in this industry.

Nathan recalls that, as a young boy, his father would often tell dinner-time stories about the problems encountered at work that day and how he solved them. Sometimes, the problems went undetected, and he told his family how those problems would cost many millions of dollars and put the safety of others at risk.  

Like their Dad, Nate and Matt feel a personal responsibility to help the heat treat industry continue to improve. Through C3 Data, they are doing just that.

Over the past 11 years, the software solutions they’ve created and continue to develop have become an efficient and reliable part of the heat-treating supply chain.

    Nathan Wright - CEO

    Nathan Wright has diverse work experience, starting in 1999 when he founded Tru-Cal. In 2006, he co-founded Global Thermal Solutions LLC with his brother, Matthew Wright. In 2013, Nathan became the CEO of C3 Data, where he is responsible for building software to help heat treaters and calibration labs ensure furnace compliance with industry standards. Nathan is known for his expertise in the aerospace and automotive industries, specifically in furnace compliance and pyrometry labs.

    Matthew Wright - VP, Director of Marketing

    A graduate of Purdue University's Schools of Engineering (BSEE) and Liberal Arts (BLA-Spanish), Matt brings a global perspective to C3 Data. Having worked within the family's multi-generational business (Wirco, INC.), Matt has a broad understanding of customer challenges in our industry. Matt and his wife Alyssa live in Indianapolis and try to keep track of their four children.

    Karen Wright - Chief Financial Officer

    Karen Wright, CFA, a graduate of Bryant University, has over 25 years of experience in finance including as EVP and Group Treasurer of AEGON during the merger of the US and NL Treasury teams and relocation to The Hague.

    Following her tenure at AEGON, Karen Wright joined C3 Data as the Chief Financial Officer. Karen is also President of the Board of Directors for GRACE Project, a non-profit the supports education, heath, and sustainable agriculture in Kenya. Karen is a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) and continues to contribute her extensive knowledge and skills to the finance industry.

A dedicated professional at C3 Data, Inc. for the past 7 years, Jamie has consistently demonstrated exceptional technical skills and a commitment to excellence. A proud alumnus of Frostburg State University, Jamie leverages a strong foundation in computer science to deliver cutting-edge solutions and drive technological advancement within the industry.

  • Clif Higdon - Advisory Panel

    Clif is an experienced quality and engineering executive with an established record of accomplishments in quality systems creation and deployment, metallurgical processes, and bottom-line profitability. He has a deep knowledge of Six Sigma, quality management in manufacturing, EHS, and operational excellence. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed technical papers on innovative surface technologies and is a former college-level educator.

    Clif has also successfully created and maintained quality, environmental, and safety management systems compliant with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, Nadcap, ISO 14001, and ISO 17025. As a member of the C3 Data Advisory Panel, Clif’s wealth of knowledge and his never-ending product ideas continue to benefit the C3 Data platform and all those who use C3 Data to help ensure their compliance.

  • Doug Shuler - Advisory Panel

    Born into a family heat treat business, Doug has been involved in the heat treating in every aspect one might imagine. From shipping/receiving, to production, maintenance, testing/inspection, quality, and management. Doug works with Performance Review Institute (PRI) as an instructor and course developer for the programs of eQuaLified and eQuaLearn. Doug is a Lead auditor for the Nadcap program having conducted over 380 Nadcap special process and aerospace quality management system audits on behalf of the aerospace Primes. Doug is also a Lead auditor for MedAccred and TPG, and is an accredited Aerospace Auditor through Probitas and contracted with Smithers registrar for ISO9001 and AS9100 auditing. Doug is an active member of the AMEC committee B. Doug’s contributions to the C3 Data Advisory Panel provide enormous value to C3 Data and all its customers by helping ensure all existing and new software products are always tried and tested to give C3 Data customers the best chance for success.
